Tribute to a pioneer/visionary from La Costa del Sol
It was on January the 8th, 2015 when the Councilor for Tourism of the Mijas City Council, Santiago Martín, presented the Tourism Award, created by the Town Hall to thank the work of professionals in the sector who consolidated Mijas as a first level tourism and sports destination.
This is just one of the examples of the great work Mateo Pérez Robles did on the Costa del Sol, since his contributions include the opening of the mythical Hotel Byblos, which placed the town of Mijas in a new benchmark for the luxury segment of the Costa del Sol. Mateo Pérez was one of the promoters of this initiative together with the great French cycling champion Louison Bobet (name of the street that crosses the Urbanization of Mijas Golf). Great personalities passed through these facilities, including Princess Lady Di, Julio Iglesias and French and Belgian ministers. A select clientele that was one of the hallmarks of this hotel business on the Costa del Sol.
In addition, Mateo Pérez, as a pioneer promoter on the coast and builder, was the architect of several hotels in Fuengirola: Hotel Las Palmeras, Hotel Puerto, old Hotel Las Pirámides (Barceló Occidental Fuengirola), and apartments as Fuengirola Playa and Fuengirola Centro.
